I already lost my mum, dad and siblings in a war back home, so I was so scared my son would die, too.

Early 2020, Kama and her young son Luke came to London. They began to attend our foodbank and slowly, Kama opened up and told us her story:

"Luke became ill when we arrived in London and he was in hospital for a month. I already lost my mum, dad and siblings in the war back home so I was so scared my son would die too. He survived.

A few weeks later I discovered my husband died. I fell into depression and I lost a lot of weight. I only had one friend in London and I had to look after Luke 24 hours a day. No nursery would accept him because of our immigration status and I also have rights to benefits.

Since I met Solidarity Sports me and Luke's life have changed. They look after us like my family. Everyone loves Luke and I don't feel lonely now. When I see how they play with Luke it makes me so happy."

Luke is 3 years old and is our youngest member of Solidarity Sports. His favourite words are ‘no’ and ‘sorry’. He loves eggs, toy cars, and blowing bubbles. If you go close to a radiator near him, he’ll warn you, “Careful, hot!”

We purchased a laptop and phone for Kama and showed her how to use transport in London. Kama is now developing her English and Maths skills at a local charity that we referred her to. We spoke with the council and they have agreed to put through a special request for Luke to secure 21 hours of nursery care a week. We have referred Kama for adult therapy.
