The key objective to our healthy-living project Food For Thought was to give children the opportunity to learn about the importance of having a balanced diet and to apply this knowledge by making healthy food from scratch. We cooked food from all over the world, from noodles in the Philippines to Jollof rice in Ghana. Each meal reflected and celebrated the diverse nationalities of the children who attended the project.

World of Flavours Background

The freedom to experiment, make a mess, burn food and causing plenty of spillage was all part of a wonderful learning experience for these young people. At the end of the project - we had produced 16 mouth watering, tried and tested dishes. Each recipe is bursting with delicious flavours from that particular region of the world.

World of Flavours is a family cookbook that will feature all the meals that we made. Each recipe will have clear step-by-step guidelines, a tasty tip and be illustrated with colourful photos. 100% of all the profits made from the book will go directly into funding our work in the community.

The book will also feature a profile on each continent, as well as interesting facts about each nation. For example, did you know that "Chi Le Mei You" (“Have you eaten?”) is the most traditional Chinese greeting? This aspect of the book aims to build and celebrate the rich diversity of our local community and thus by doing so enhance positive self-image for the children involved.

The book will aim to encourage families to cook together and help instil healthy eating habits for life. We would like to say a big thank you to all the families who helped us with the recipes and to all of the people who volunteered their time to make this project a reality!
