"I learnt that it is important to shake hands when you finish a game" Ruqayya

Solidarity Sports ran a sports and healthy eating project during the October half-term at Wilberforce Primary School.

The project invited children from all cultures, faiths and backgrounds to take part in sporting activities that gave them a communal sense of belonging. Each day, children were divided into teams and given important roles and responsibilities. Each team was integrated and rotated so that at the end of the week all the participants had played alongside each other.

The healthy eating initiative encouraged children to get their 5-a-day of fruit and vegetables and developed their understanding of what a healthy diet consists of. Children learnt about new ingredients and prepared food for themselves and their friends. The event was well received by all the families who took part, local councillor Barrie Taylor explained, "Events like this are so important to us, we think it does everything for the local community. The kids have had a brilliant week".

Solidarity Sports would like to give a special thanks to local councillors Mushtaq Qureshi and Barrie Taylor who awarded a sports and health certificate to all the participants.
