Art pictures declared award winners! November 2009

During our summer project, Food For Thought, Solidarity Sports entered an art competition run by the Kensington and Chelsea Volunteer Centre. They were asked to produce any still media, drawing, painting or photograph that would inspire people to volunteer. Whilst producing the artwork, children were asked to interpret the topic 'what does volunteering mean to you'.

The Voluntary Centre received over 100 entries and we are delighted to announce that first, second and third places were awarded to Solidarity Sports. Congratulations to Rian, May-Ann, Cai, Leonardo and Chaniya for their winning pictures. Well done to all the young people that entered the competition. Thanks very much to our art teacher, Nuria, who inspired the children to produce the artwork.

Cai: "This picture is of a helicopter with people throwing tents, books, food, and things that poor people need to help them. The hands at the bottom are reaching out to them. The hearts show that people want to do it and don't always do things just because of money. It's about people helping other people".

Rian: "This drawing is of animals and insects. I did it because the museum is a very friendly place. When you volunteer you make life easier for everybody else".

Leonardo:
"I drew the picture so that if some parents don't have a job, they can volunteer at the Natural History Museum. Then, when children go to the museum, the parents can explain the facts about the dinosaurs to them. The dinosaur is a Spinosaurus".

Chaniya: "We wanted to make the picture look creative so we made the giraffe stick out. If you volunteer you help charities and learn new stuff."

May-Ann: "The picture is of people volunteering in a zoo to keep animals alive and to help them grow. I did the picture so that it will make people be more helpful in every day life".
